Shiraz is the capital of the Fars province in southern Iran and one of the great centres of tribal rug weaving. Shiraz rugs are made by the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of the region — including the Qashqai and Khamseh — and are celebrated for their bold medallion compositions, vibrant reds, and the distinctive character that comes from being woven entirely in wool.
